Escalation on workflows and activities that take too long - (page 1 of 5)

Level: intermediate
Required reading: Workflow authoring

This "how to" demonstrates taking escalation action after either an activity or an entire workflow takes too long to execute.

Usually activity escalation (or timeouts) are used on user task based activities to make sure that individual steps do not take too long.
Workflow escalations can be used to guarantee that service level agreements (SLAs) are met.

We will start with the single user workflow. Then we will make the approval activity have a timeout of 1 hour. Finally we will add a escalation workflow.
